5. Laura On the Case

Laura Radcliffe, CPD homicide, investigates both the incident at the Catacomb Club and now a similar incident at First Midwest Bank and Trust in Wicker Park. Here, six more are dead, massacred with the same sudden brutality seen at the club. What is different this time is the presence of security cameras, but their footage only creates more questions, as now she can see first-hand how inexplicably random the killings are.

The video footage does provide one lead, however: the presence of a man matching the description of someone seen at the Catacomb Club, a man eyewitnesses claim somehow “saved” those who survived. Laura sees him step into the bank just as the first teller turns and lunges at her coworker. She sees him leap forward, gesturing fiercely with his hands. There is a blinding flash.

And nothing more. Blank screen. Everything electronic in the bank was fried.

But there are other leads, other witnesses, and Laura soon finds herself talking to those living in the darkness of Lower Wacker, witnesses who say that yes, there is a man fitting that description. He often wanders the drive at night, seemingly searching for something...
