7. The Harrison Hotel

After the battle, Jesse takes Laura to the hotel where he stays. Shaken, she demands he tell her everything. As she administers first aid to the burns on his back, he does, pulling no punches. Furthermore, he explains that he has never seen the fiends so brazen before, and he believes they would never show their true forms and powers out in the open like that if they didn't feel emboldened somehow.

Something is coming, something that makes the fiends feel like they can get away with anything now, but he doesn't know what. Laura points out that regardless of what it is, neither of them is any shape to do anything about it. They need rest. As the rain pelts the streets outside, the two of them settle in for some much-needed sleep.

And a little human comfort before the end of the world.
